Wren Bedrooms

In February 2023, Wren Kitchens (a happy customer of Space-Plug), announced the business was expanding into the bedroom market and would be supplying a fitted bedroom service. As they continued to design their bedroom range of single, double-fitted wardrobes and bedside units, they had a requirement for an anti-topple device for their newly designed chest units. The catch, it needed to bridge the gap over small distances! As narrow as skirting boards! Be easy to use, have few parts and be relatively un-noticeable.

At the time, the Space-Plug “XL” or “Reg” that Wren were purchasing from us and supplying with all their kitchen base units, was far too big!

The team at Space-Plug love a challenge! And when the UK's number 1 kitchen retailer asks you to come up with a solution - hoops needed to be jumped through!

Over less than a 6 month period, Space-Plug designed, tested, tooled, relocated and got into manufacture of a new 'Mini' adjustable spacer fixing. We call it the “Baby” of the family as it’s just so cute!! It was designed to be made up of three parts. The first two parts are male and female just like the (Reg & XL). However the new fixing has an accessory! An interlocking extension … But why?

The answer is in the travel. The shorter the thread the shorter distance it can travel. Space-Plug therefore needed to make a spacer that would go from 15mm - 35mm in order for the range not to have any gaps! That would be awful! So, the extension part is a 10mm “Brainwave”! The traditional male and female parts alone will range approx. 15 to 25mm. Then by attaching the extender, the Mini will comfortably bridge gaps from 25mm to 35mm. It then completes the Space-Plug Adjustable Spacer Family all the way from 15-80mm in 3 handy sizes with 5mm overlaps between each product. We even researched the colour for them ensuring it was as discreet a grey as can be found!

The SP Mini was born and went into mass production in August 2023.

Wren Bedrooms will be phasing in supplying the SP Mini with all their chest furniture. Making for a faster more professional install for the fitter as well as their customers.

The SP Mini is a perfect wall fixing for fitted or free, floor standing furniture, such as any bedroom or bathroom cabinets and as such is the perfect anti-topple fixing. Cabinets require a reasonably sturdy back or at least a sturdy fixing brace for a solid and safe fixing. Not recommended through hardboard backs. Our team work with manufacturers to ensure our adjustable spacer fixings are implemented correctly and safely.
